When Robert Spink was born in 1615, in Levington, Suffolk, England, his father, John Spink, was 50 and his mother, Margaret Shuckforth, was 42. He married Alice Hewes in 1653, in Kingston, South Kingstown, Washington, Rhode Island, United States. They were the parents of at least 9 sons and 3 daughters. He immigrated to Jamestown, Prince Edward, Virginia, United States in 1635. He died on 27 March 1695, in Narragansett, Washington, Rhode Island, United States, at the age of 80, and was buried in Narragansett, Washington, Rhode Island, United States.

Robert Spink (1615 - 1695) married Alica Howes of Kingston and New Port, RI He embarked at London May 28th, 1635 in ship Speedwell, bound for Virginia, his age was given as 20 years. He and others previous to sailing examined by the minister of Cravensend of their conformity to the orders and discipline of the church of England, and having taken the oath of Allegiance. He was in New Port, RI 1648 and made a freeman 1655, and bought land 1632. In 1665, he and others Kingston, petitioned the Assembly. In 1671 he took the oath of Allegiance and bought land in Quidnsett. In 1679, he and 41 others Naragansett, petitioned the King, praying that he would put an end to the differences about the Government thereof, which had been so fatal to the prosperity of the place animosities still arising in peoples m;minds, as they stand effected of that Government. In 1687 he was taxed 10 s. 2 d. In 1688 he and several others made complaint that several highways in Kingston were stopped up to the great damage of the people.

His will, Dec. w 1685, was proved 1695. Executors Alice, his wife and son Robert. Overseers Capt. Wait Winthrop, Capt, John Brown, and Mrs. Joseph Clark. To eldest son my now dwelling house and 100 acres and etc. and if he die without issue, to go to son John Robert also had 20 ewes, 5 cows, 10 sheep and a bed. To son John, 1/5 of the remaining land at Narragansett, and if he die, son Shibna to have. John also has 2 cows, 4 sheep and 10 cattle at age. To son Shibna 1/5 of land in Narragansett, and if he die son Nicholas to have. To son Nicholas 1/5 of land in Narragasett, and if he die son Samuel to have. To son Samuel 1/5 of said land, and if he die, son Ishmael to have. To son Ishmael 1/5 of said land and if he die son Benjamin to have. To son Benjamin, my house and land in Portsmouth, and if he die to son Ishmael. To sons Shibna, Nicholas, Samuel and Benjamin at age, the same legacy in Cattle and sheep as that given to son John. To eldest daughter Margaret Baughn, wife of George Vaughn, 1 S. she formerly had at her marriage. To daughter Sarah Spink, 2 cows, 4 young cattle, 10 sheep, 5 ewes and 5 lambs at 21 or marriage. To daughter Elizabeth Spink, a like legacy. To wife Alice, 1/2 the profits of housing, and 100 acres given to son Robert, said income to be hers for life.

The Spinks were originally Vikings and sailed down to Normandy in one of the primitive ships. Later they crossed to England with William the Conqueror.

The name Spink is an old one, and no doubt originated in Scotland where the bird in that country as the Finch is frequently and commonly called the Spink. The Scotch poet, Thomson, quotes in one of his poems, "The Spink sings sweetest in the morning air." Crest, Arms and Motto of the Spinks of London. Crest, pheon-argent. Motto, "Vennabulis Vinco". (I conquer with my hunting spear) (And hunters in those days were gentlemen) Translation of the Spink of London Arms, Crest, etc. A pheon-argent, (A silver dart with a barbed head of iron the Cross of Silver and blue.)

Trinity Church graveyard New York City contains Spink tombstones with the following: "James Spinks died Nov. 14, 1795 in the 87th year of his age; Mary Ann - his wife, died July ----- (indistinct.

Spink Coat of Arms: a talbot passent is also coat of Arms of the Talbot family. Their Arms asure, a cross mascula argent, between four eagles displayed on their crest. A talbot passent gules bezant gorged with three fusils argent. Their motto "Fidelis: (Faithful) Asure cross mascula argent is ( A losenge of silver in center of blue cross, between four eagles). A talbot passant ( a standing dog noted for its quick scent). Fusil argent, etc. is a red circle denoting courage, crowned with three silver muskets.

Savage's Genealogical Dictionary of first settlers of New England "Robert Spink Newport among freemen on the list 1655 is found at Zickford 1674. His daughter Margaret married July 26, 1680, George Baughn of Greenwich. Robert Spink, Jr. born in Kingston RD died ----1709. Children of Robert Jr.: Robert, Margaut, Hannah, Elizabeth, Abigil. John Spink born in Kingston, RI married 1697. Margaret Spink died 1704. Married July 26, 1680 to George Vaughn son of George and Gillian Baughn. George Vaughn born Oct. 20, 1650 died May 4, 1704. Children of George Vaughn and Margaret Spink: George, born 4-19-1682; Daniel, born 4-29-1683; Mary, born 2-28-1685; Chistopher, born 4-29-1686; Abagil, born 2-24-1689; Robert, born 2-24-1691. Children of Nicholas Spink: John, Nicholas, JR., Jusirh, Abigail, born 1704.

Shenina Spink the first, Nisholas Spink born in North Kingston, RI died 1733. Married 1 (Abigirl) (2) Sarah. March 23, 1702 he and wife Abigirl, sold to Thomas Dufrea of Portsmouth RI 11 acres of land for 50 lbs., said land having been purchased from brother Ismail in 1739. A suit was brought against him by the children of his brother Robert, to recover certain lands in North Kingston, the lands had been left by Grandfather of plaintiff, Robert Spink, who they said died about 1695, to eldest son Robert, father of the plaintiff, and father dying about 1709, leaving one son Robert who died unmarried about 1728.

In answer to this suit Nicholas Spink showed a deed from his nephew dated 1724, Apr. 17, duly witnessed. The deposition of James Broynor, declared that while a sailor on his Mahesty's Ship belonging to a fleet on the Baltic Sea, he said Robert Spink, a carpenter of his Majesty's ship Revenge was alive and well, and that was three years ago. The Plaintiffs in this suit were Samuel Tabox of East Greenwish, and wife Marguet, Thomas Jacques, and wife Hanna, Alexandria Hiling and wife Elizabeth of North Kingston and John Fry and wife of New Port.

Will of Nicholas Spink proved March 5, 1733. Inventory 473 lbs. 6 s. 8 d. shown by widow Sarah. Among the items were Jinter old wheel and notes 100 lbs. 1 s. 9 horses, yoke of oxen, 8 young s, cattle, bull, 9 cheeses, one horse said to be Josirhs, 87 sheep, sow and pigs, 8 shotes and hay 24 lbs., etc. Samuel Spink born ----- died -----. Ismael Spink born 1680, Sept. 1st at Kingston, married Jan. 9 to Deliverance Hall, who was born Jan. 8, 1683; Benjamin Spink, Sarah Spink and Elizabeth Spink.
