[Unknown newspaper source and date.] Former Resident Taken By Death At Florida Home R. H. Thomas Succumbs Following Death of His Wife a Month Ago

   Robert Henry Thomas, 75, one-time mayor of St. Petersburg and for more than a quarter of a century a real estate and insurance firm operator, died at his home, 205 Twenty-Fifth Avenue north, at 10:30 o'clock Saturday night.
   Mr. Thomas' death followed almost a month to a day that of his wife, Ada Taggert Thomas, who succumbed September 2.
   Mr. Thomas was born in Woodford county, Illinois, February 22, 1881, the son of D. E. and Minerva Jane (Barnes) Thomas.  He went to St. Petersburg in December 1900, and for the following 30 years engaged in real estate business on a large scale.  He later operated an insurance business under his own name, and was the oldest insurance agent actively engaged in business in St. Petersburg. Headed Mortgage Company
   He was one of the organizers of the St. Petersburg Bond and Mortgage company, and became its active president.  He also organized the Bayboro Investment company of St. Petersburg.
   Always actively civically and politically, Mr. Thomas served the city as mayor for two terms, and was secretary of the board of trade in the early days, serving without compensation.  During the World War he was chairman of the local Red Cross, building that organization to a membership of over 4,500.
   He was a director of the First National Bank of St. Petersburg; a member of the Country Club, the Yacht club, and was fraternally affiliated with the Elks.
   Mr. Thomas and Miss Ada Taggart were married in Lacon, February 28, 1883.  They resided in this city until they moved to St. Petersburg.
   Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J. Mac Wilson, of St. Petersburg; two sisters, Miss Mary M. Thomas of Los Angeles, and Mrs. C. M. Anthony of Peoria; and a brother, Dr. C. D. Thomas, also of Peoria.
   Funeral services were conducted in Florida and the body cremated.  The ashes will be sent to Lacon and buried in the family plot beside the ashes of his wife.

   The ashes of the late R. H. Thomas, former Lacon resident who passed away last week at his home in St. Petersburg, Florida, will be brought to Lacon for interment in the Lacon cemetery.
   Short services will be conducted at the cemetery at 2:30 o'clock, Firday, October 16.  Rev. Roy B. Morgan will officiate.
