About Robert Ward
Robert Ward Born 1845 Thirsk Died 1919 Bishop Auckland area Coal Miner At the time of the 1851 census Robert was living with his parents and brothers at Long Street, Thirsk and his father was working as a carter and agricultural labourer. By 1861 the family had re-located to County Durham and they were living in Kelloe. Robert married Elizabeth Smith at St Helen's, Kelloe in August 1868. At the time of the 1871 census they were living at No 36 First East Row Coxhoe and Robert was working as a coal miner. His parents were living in the same street. In 1881 they had moved to No 159 Office Row, Brandon. In 1891 they had moved to Binchester and were living there with their three daughters. Daughter Ann had married by this time. At the time of the 1901 census Robert and Elizabeth were living alone at No 8 Wood Row, Westerton, Bishop Auckland and he continued to work as a coal miner. Robert was widowed in 1905 when wife Elizabeth died. He remarried in 1906 to Dorothy Timms and at the time of the 1911 census they were living at No 8 Wood Row, Binchester near Bishop Auckland. Robert died in the Bishop Auckland area in 1919.
