About Robert de Guînes, seigneur de Bavelinghem

Has been identified with the second son of Arnoul, Comte de Guines, and of Beatrix de Bourbourg. May or may not have been married to Amicia de Clare, the widowed Countess of Devon; was definitely married (second or third marriage?) to Maroitte, dame de Hames, exercised control of her lands and title, and had children by her. She survived him to take as her second husband one Pierre de Beaufremez.

7. ROBERT de Guines (-after 1248). The testament of "Baudewins cuens de Ghisnes et castelains de Broborgh", dated 1244, bequeathed to "Robert mon frere me maison de Baulinghem ki fu M. me sereur…Adame de Tienbrone me nieche le bos de huonual tot ensi cumme ie l´aquis à Monseingneur Manessie mon oncle…"[978]. [m (after 10 Jan 1248) as her second husband, AMICE de Clare, widow of BALDWIN de Reviers Earl of Devon, daughter of GILBERT de Clare Earl of Gloucester and Hereford & his wife Isabel Marshal of Pembroke (27 May 1220[979]-27 Nov, before 21 Jan 1284). The primary source which confirms her parentage and marriage has not yet been identified. The necrology of the Priory of Saint-Martin-des-Champs records the death "V Kal Dec" of "Amitia comitissa Devonie"[980].]

While apparently permission for this marriage was obtained, there is no record of it ever taking place, and no record of any children.

Other French sources claim that his wife was "Maroite dame de Hames" and that they had at least one son, named Jean (John) - some sources cite three sons. French Wikipedia gives Robert's dates as c. 1202-1270.
