WILL OF ROGER WILSON (grandfather of Roger Wilson Reese)South Carolina, Sumter District - Recorded 28th day of Nov 1823
In the name of God, Amen. I, Roger Wilson , of the State and District aforesaid, being not in a very good state of health of body, but of perfect sound mind and memory [blessed be God for the same] calling to mind my mortality, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make, and ordain this my last will, and testament. Principally, and first of all, I resign my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the dust to be buried in a Christian like manner by my Executors, as touching such worldly Estate, as it has pleased God to bless me with, I give, and bequeath in the following manner.
Item 1st, I give and bequeath to my following children [Viz] Thomas Wilson, Robert Wilson, Mary Reece, William Wilson, Josiah Wilson, Samuel Wilson, Margaret Bradley, Harriet Williams, and Lily M Williams one dollar each, in addition to what they have already received of my estate.....
Item 4th, I give and bequeath to my grandson, Roger Wilson Reese, one Negro man named Centry, to him and his lawful heirs forever.... Item 7th, It is my will and desire at my deceased, that the within named Centry, be delivered to my grandson, Robert W Reese, as soon as he may call for him.
