Roger Seymour de St Maur

• Roger Seymour or St Maur was the son and heir of Roger St Maur. He was Lord of Penhow & Woundy in Wales. He married Joan Damorel and had 3 sons; John, Roger & William.
• 12 Mar 1307: "[MONMOUTH.] Penho. 1 Welsh knight’s fee held by Roger de Seymor." ; "Henru. 1/4 knight’s fee held by Roger de Seymor and William Adam." 3.
• In 1315 he was mentioned in the Inquisition Post Mortem of Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester " that Roger de Seymour, William de Gamage, and their Tenants in Woundy, are answerable in Pleas of the Crown, in the Court of Caerleon." 1.
• 10 Feb 1317: " He (the escheator) went to certain lands, &c. which the said John held of the king in chief by knight’s service, as appears by inquisitions taken after the death of Gilbert de Knovill his father, and by rolls and other memoranda of the exchequer, and found there Roger de Sancto Mauro, asserting himself to be steward of Thomas, earl of Norfolk and Marshal of England, in the parts of Stroguil, who maintained himself there by force, and would not permit him to execute his office." 6.
• His son, John Seymour, is Lord of Penho, by 4 Apr 1337, indicating Roger is dead by this time.4 Apr 1337: "William de Hales acknowledges that he owes to John de Seymor, lord of Penho, 20l. ; to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in the city of London." 7.
