About Rose Elizabeth Sullivan
From recollections of Rose Nickols Sullivan on 9-17-1996:
Rose said the kids did all the chores on the Minnesota farm. They milked 17 or 18 cows at 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. They sold milk, cream, and butter including turning the separator to make the butter.
When Joseph Nickols was away from the farm (often for two to three months at a time), Ella took care of the finances.
In 1913, a cyclone blew down the barn and the summer kitchen. After the new barn was built, she painted "1913" in the peak of the new barn.
Rose also mentioned some "Iowa relatives." The names were: John Spaeth, Aunt Gerty, and Charles Vensing.
