CLARKSON, GERALD RICHARD, Corporal, No. 4525, Divisional Signal Company, New Zealand Engineers, elder son of the late Richard Potts Clarkson, M.A., Director of Technical Education, Hawkes Bay District, and Headmaster, Napier Technical College; by his wife, Rosina, daughter of (-) O'Shaughnessy, and nephew of John Bowes Clarkson, of Christchurch, New Zealand; b. Palmerston North, New Zealand, 26 Oct. 1893; educated Normanby Public School, Stratford High School, and Napier Technical College; volunteered for Imperial service on the outbreak of war in Aug. 1914; left for Egypt with the main Expeditionary Force, and was killed in action at the Dardanelles, 24 May, 1915, while patrolling Telegraph Lines in "No Man's Land"; unmarried. Buried with three other New Zealanders near where he fell before a general Cemetery was decided on.
