About Rosina Roeschen Goldschmidt

Source: Jona Schellekens, The Wallich List from Worms. Aschkenas 25 (2015): 181-204.

The list of Jewish households in Worms from 1610 mentions Rosina as a daughter of Beifuβ Josephi, Medicus at the Blume and his housewife Vögele. She was already married and lived in the house zum Engel with her husband Benedict and daughter Schönge. Benedict is a "foreign Jew" but had not yet paid his Einkaufsgels (StA Worms Abt. 1 B Nr. 2024/11, Nr. 29 und 41). It wasn't until December 1613 that Benedict zum Engel paid his Einkaufsgeld (StA Worms Abt. 1 B Nr. 1393/18, Bl. 2 V). In addition Benedict paid 30 fl. for the Judenschatzung in 1610. The Judenschatzung was 10 fl. per year. Thus, he paid for three years and must have been already in Worms in 1608. In 1611 and 1612 he paid 10 fl. for the Judenschatzung (StA Worms Abt. 1 B Nr. 1393/11-16). Benedict is not mentioned again in Worms until 1623, when according to a note in the Schatzungsliste, Mosche, the son of Beifuß zum Korb had married Schönge, the daughter of Benedict zu Kassel and a (grand)daughter of the physician Beifuß zur Blume (StA Worms Abt. 1 B Nr. 1393/15, Bl. 23 VS; and Nr. 1393/20, Bl. 1 VS). Few Jews were allowed to live in Kassel at the time. Thus, Benedict zu Kassel and Rosina are to be identified with Benedict Goldschmidt and his wife Rosina (source of information: Dr. Ursula Reuter, Institut für Jüdische Studien, Heinrich-Heine-Universität, Düsseldorf). Dr. Rüdiger Kröger found the following information in the archives of Speyer: On June 18,1623, Beifus Josephus zu Blumen wrote to the city of Speyer with a request to allow his 'foreign' son-in-law [=Benedikt Goldschmidt] and his daughter [=Rosina] as well as his married granddaughter [=Sch%C3%B6nge] to live in the town of Speyer. Rosina died in Kassel on 28-9-1647. She was buried in Bettenhausen. Her tombstone is the oldest tombstone there with a date (BIO 20).
