About Roswell King

pioneer settler of Cobb County with his son, Barrington. In 1837 they founded the village of Lebanon, where they established flour mills, and the village of Roswell, where they established cotton mills.. The Kings... laid out the village with wide streets and a park, and gave buling sites for an academy and two churches... Six families, all friends from teh Georgia coast, formed 'the colony' of Rosell: Roswell King, Barrington King, James Stephens Bulloch, John Dunwody, James Smith, and the Rev. Roswell King (1765 – February 15, 1844) was an American businessman, planter, slave owner and industrialist. Together with his son, Barrington King, he founded Roswell Manufacturing Company in the Georgia Piedmont, establishing a cotton mill and industrial complex. They co-founded the town of Roswell, Georgia, inviting friends to be part of its and the mill's development in the 1830s.
