About Rudolf (Rudi) Eichberg

A few months ago I was contacted by the Red Cross to see if I could contact family connected to Rudi Eichberg, as he has saved the grandmother of an Israeli woman, Shaked Arazi, who later wrote to me. Dear Andrew, I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, I'm working in the EMS services, and as you can imagine this is a crazy time. Rudi story, according to my grandmother, Hetty Tenenbaum Schnitzler: Rudi was sent to the Netherlands in 1939, with his younger brother, who died in 1939 after he ran into a glass door and got a shutter to his carotid artery. Rudi was moved to the house of the Veldhuijzen family in 1940 (My grandmother is still in touch with the granddaughter who was born during the war, and is the only one who is still alive today from the family), they lived in leiden. Hetty was sent to hide there in 1941-2 (she can't set the date). both kids were around the same age (two years apart), during that time, they didn't really hide, they slept in the addict and read all day, but could walk around the house. The Germans knew where Rudi was, since it was documented. and one night, when the family of the Veldhuijzen were out they knocked on the door. Rudi told Hetty to hide, explained he will never tell she is hiding in the house as wellתand this was the last time she saw him. Since that day she had to hide, but she owes her life to Rudi, our whole family owes him our lives. Thank you for the picture. I attached some documents we had, and my mother (Hetty's daughter) next to the house of the Veldhuijzen. If you understand heberw, here is a link to Hetty's testimony to Yad Vashem, with Rudi's Story: https://youtu.be/yL9Aqx-TCgY
