Ruquaiya "Lulu" Bilgrami

I remember Lulu Aunty so well..we spent a few weeks in Gandipet when I was about 7..Biamma, Mummy,aunts and cousins. I had broken my leg and it was in plaster up to my thigh so instead of joining the other children as they played outside or marched up and down the Bund chanting "Choclatex choclatex Zain Yar Jung ki fauj!!"(never understood this)!! I sat with the grownups in the Gandipet guest house..Aunty Lulu was also there and she took it upon herself to read to me and keep me generally busy and amused..it is the only time that I can remember enjoying Alice in Wonderland because she read it out to me and made it come alive...she had endless patience and was so loving and kind that I had a wonderful holiday.. I can imagine what a great teacher she must have been.That is my last memory of her. xx Minoo
