Ruth Schulz, long known for her cheerful demeanor and friendly spirit, passed away in Prineville, Ore., on Oct. 26, 2008 due to complications from Parkinson's disease.

Born in Cuero, Tex., on December 2 1922, to Rev. Frank and Ruth Eberhardt, she graduated from University of Texas in 1943 with a degree in journalism. Shortly after, she married Carl G. Schulz, stationed in North Carolina with the 7th Air Force. After the war, the Schulzes first moved to Chicago, Ill., and then returned to Carl's home in Meriden, where Ruth lived until January 2001.

Active in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Meriden, Ruth sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served as Church Librarian. She and Carl also were part of the dedicated team helping with finances in the church for almost 40 years. They were members of the American Iris Society, and Ruth served as president of the local Connecticut Iris Society, was a certified garden and show judge, and edited the periodical bulletin for the society. Caring for her yard and home filled much of her time.

Ruth was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1992, but managed to live independently for another nine years.

Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home. (Central Oregonian Oct. 29 2008)
