About Ruth Dalton

Ruth Leete was born about May 08, 1579, Eversden, Cambridgeshire, England and died on May 12, 1666, Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire. Will was proved 8 Dec 1666. She was the daughter of Robert Leete & Alice Grundy and married Timothy Dalton, Sr. on June 13, 1615, Parish Church of Gislingham near Eye, Suffolk, England. No children.

Notes

  1. It is rendered almost certain that George Parkhurst, Sen-, of Watertown, was the brother or brother-in-law of Ruth Dalton, the wife of the Rev. Timothy Dalton, of Hampton. (1)
  2. As to Ruth Dalton, wife of Rev. Timothy Dalton, from all the facts known to the writer it would seem that she was not a sister of George1 Parkhurst, but was more likely a sister of his first wife, Phebe. No record of the first wife is found in America, though he again married, about 1643, Susanna, widow of John Simpson. (2)
  3. Savage, in Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, p. 341, speculates that Thomas Carter's wife, Mary, may have been the daughter of Philemon Dalton. He infers this from the will of Ruth Dalton, the wife of Timothy Dalton who was the brother of Philemon. In her will, Ruth (having no children) remembers Mary Carter with the children of Philemon Dalton. (N.B. Savage was correct that Mary Carter was her niece, but she seems more likely to have been the daughter of her sister Phebe Leete & George Parkhurst).
