Ruth Harriet Karol, 85, of Kansas City, MO, died suddenly on May 6, 2004, while visiting family near Washington, DC. She was born in Kansas City on April 5, 1919, the daughter of Wolf and Pearl Glazer. Mrs. Karol was married to Joseph Karol on August 31, 1941, and he preceded her in death on August 31, 2002. Survivors are her children, Rabbi Stephen and Mary Karol of Stony Brook, NY, and Rabbi Lawrence and Rhonda Karol of Topeka, KS; a sister, Helen Shapiro of Leawood, KS; two grandchildren, Samantha Karol of Stony Brook, NY, and Adam Karol of Topeka, KS; and beloved nieces and nephews. She was a member of Congregation B'nai Jehudah for 43 years. She served as Sisterhood President and gift shop chairperson and was the recipient of the Sisterhood Shoshana Award. She taught in B'nai Jehudah's Religious School for 12 years and served as coconvenor of Temple Adults Unlimited Havurah and organizer of the Temple Mix and Mingle Program. Mrs. Karol was a past president of the Kansas City Chapel of Hadassah and, most recently, president of the Hadassah Herzl L'Chaim Group. She received the Hannah G. Solomon Award from the National Council of Jewish Women for her work as Fund-Raising Vice President. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, at Temple B'nai Jehudah, 12320 Nall. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ruth Karol Leadership Training Fund at Temple B'nai Jehudah.
