Ruth Schon, 86, Bismarck, North Dakota, formerly of Turtle Lake, North Dakota, died Feb. 20, 2010, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck, North Dakota. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery, Turtle Lake, North Dakota.

Ruth was born June 6, 1923, at Skogmo,North Dakota, in Sheridan County, North Dakota, the second of nine children born to William and Katie (Lauer) Blumhagen.

She attended the rural Holmes Consolidated School until the eighth grade. Ruth then worked for area families for several years. She married Bennie Schon on Sept. 28, 1940, at Peace Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake, North Dakota.

They made their home on the Fiesel homestead farm, northeast of Turtle Lake, North Dakota, where they raised three sons, operated a dairy, and farmed grain for 28 years. In 1968, they moved to a farm north of Mercer, North Dakota where Ruth worked alongside her husband Bennie until moving into Turtle Lake, North Dakota in 1985.

She enjoyed gardening, yard work, cooking and baking. Ruth was always prepared to serve meals to any guests that came to her home. She also enjoyed dancing, needlework, quilting and bowling. Ruth and Bennie enjoyed traveling together and spending time with family and friends. She also spent many days watching and caring for her grandkids. In July 2006,

Ruth and Bennie moved to the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, North Dakota. In October 2007, they became residents of the Baptist Home of Bismarck, North Dakota. Bennie passed away on Jan. 2, 2010. Ruth was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Turtle Lake, North Dakota and later a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served with the ladies group and church choir.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Ella Schon, Turtle Lake, North Dakota; her daughters-in-law, Marilyn Schon-Rath, Wishek, North Dakota; and Margaret Bentz, Lincoln, North Dakota.

And eight grandchildren, Kenny Simmons, Independence, Missouri; James Schon, Lisbon, North Dakota; Troy (Debbie) Schon, Lincoln, North Dakota; Steve (Shelly) Schon, Bismarck, North Dakota; Chad Schon, Bismarck, North Dakota; Sarah (Jarvis) Keney, Wilton, North Dakota; Angela Schon, Bismarck, North Dakota; and Eric Schon, Mercer, North Dakota.

And nine great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by four brothers, Rueben (Ardella) Blumhagen, Fallon, Nevada; Albert (Lorraine), Lincoln, North Dakota; Lawrence (Jerda), Bismarck, North Dakota; and Edwin (Bev), Bismarck, North Dakota; one sister, Pauline Roth, McClusky, North Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bennie; two sons, LeVerne and Lyle; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee; and three brothers, Leonard, Lloyd and Richard.
