She graduated from the Fredonia Normal School (later Fredonia State) She taught in the Schaghticoke (later Hoosic Valley) schools and briefly in the Stillwater Central Elementary School. She played the organ in several churches in the area, principally the Valley Falls United Methodist and Johnsonville United Methodist.
