The 1910 U.S. census shows Sam Geis, 25, married one time, 7 years. Presser. Came to U. S. in 1904. Rosie, 24 years, Wife, married once, 7 years, 3 kids, 2 living. (Rosie is Rose Bialek.) Born in Russia. Oscar, son, age 3 Louis, son age 1 Abram Forlack (?), brother-in-law age 22 , Painter - Odd Jobs, Born Russia. (This is Abraham Bialek, Rose's brother) Joe Geis, brother age 18 Operator-Cloaks. Born Russia.
1930 U.S. Census shows Sam Gise at 152 75th St., Brooklyn, NY Sam Gise, age 44, born Russia. Came to U.S. in 1905. Owned gas stations. Rose, 42, Russia, came to U.S. in 1906 Oscar, 23 Harry, 21 Meyer, 19 Sylvia 14 All the children were born in NYC.
Possibly Samuel Gise received his Bachelor of Science from CCNY on May 5, 1933.
WWI Registration: Sam Gise 402 Watkins St., Brooklyn. Shows him born Sept. 5, 1884. Laborer. Wife: Rose, same address.
WWII: Sam Gise, 6804 79th St., Middle Village, NY. Born Nov. 10, 1886. Self-employed at 6920 80th St., Glendale, NY. Wife: Rose Gise.
Sam owned a hand laundry which he turned over to his brother-in-law Louie Bialek. Probably Sam helped a lot of the family.
According to Josh Simon, Sam owned several gas stations throughout New York City. One, run by his son, Meyer, was in Coney Island. My father, Michael (Meyer) Bialik, son of Louie Bialek, who was the brother of Rose Gise, parked his car there so we could walk around the amusements.
According to Josh Simon, Sam bought a diamond ring for Rosie that wowed everyone. This was during the Depression.
Sam, also known as Shabse, was a vice president of the Elias Young Men Association, a Jewish fraternal organization of "young emigrants from the government (state) of Vilna." (The photo of Sam is from the EYMA souvenir book of 1919. (Society named for Rabbi Elias Lider who was Rabbi in the city of Lido.)
Sam is buried in the Elias Young Men section of Mount Zion Cemetery in Maspeth, NY.
