Samuel was the son of John & Esther Pontius Beyer. He was born in Sinking Valley, Huntington County,Pennsylvania.
[Sinking Valley is now located in Blair County, north east of Altoona.Blair County was formed from that part of Huntington County in 1846]
He moved to Punxsutawney in 1849,shortly after his marriage to Miss Caroline Feltwell. She died in 1869 and on 2 July 1870 he was married to Mrs. Lavina Neigh,who survived him.
A daughter,Caroline Beyer, born 30 August 1865 in Indiana county,Pa.; died,4 February 1954, at the age of 88 in Oakland,California.
