About Samuel Foreman

Miriam Hoyt. Born about 1650. She married Samuel Forman, born in
England in 1637, died in April 1682, son of Robert and Johanna (---)
Forman. (This is from the Forman Genealogy, by Anne S. Dandridge,
Cleveland, Ohio, 1903.) They lived in Flushing, L.I. After Samuel's
death, she married, about 1683, Richard Harcourt, born 1623, died
1696, who had married, 1st, in 1651, Elizabeth Potter, born 1635-6,
daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Anthony) Potter, see subject 306,
but had no children by him.
  Issue:-
2/1. Mercy Forman. She married Benjamin Birdsall, whose will was
dated 1719, son of Nathan and Temperance (Baldwin) Birdsall, who
lived in Oyster Bay, L.I. in 1684-5.

Samuel Forman, often in records as Firman, was the son of Robert and Johanna Forman, who settled on Long Island by 1645. His parents, originally from Sudbury, Suffolk, Eng. had lived in Vlessingen, Holland for 15 years, having three children, Moses, Aaron, and Samuel.

Samuel was a widower in Fairfield, and later returned to Long Island, living in Oyster Bay. Sarah, a daughter of Samuel, married Daniel Harcutt, a stepson of his wife Miriam, about 1680. (Genealogies of Long Island Families, Vol 1, p. 473) He also had a dau Mercy, who md Benjamin Birdsall of Oyster Bay abt. 1681. It is unclear who the mother was, as Samuel was a widower when he md Miriam in 1662. He may have had two other children as well, John and Susannah. He signed a receipt regarding the estate of Simon Hoyt, and under the agreement re Susannah in 1674, he was to have the horses running in Fairfield limits.
