About Samuel Martin
Family members never provided an exact date of birth for Samuel. But family members said he died at the age of eight in a fall in a under mysterious circumstances. As the story goes, Samuel’s body was found in a building well--that is, an area next to a building which is below sidewalk level--and it was not determined if he had accidentally fallen in on his own and died there or if he had been pushed into the well and then died.
New circumstantial information has come to light which, almost certainly, refers to Samuel: According to death records from New York City discovered with internet searches, a “Sam Martin”, a single, white male who was born in 1907, died on October 12, 1915 aged 8, in Manhatten and was buried on October 13, 1915. The boy’s parents were listed as “Lewis” and “Soffie Richlin”, both of whom were born in Russia and were living at 192 Henry St. in Manhatten. Sam was buried in Mount Judah Cemetery (also known as Highland View Cemetery ) located at 81-14 Cypress Avenue, Ridgewood, Queens County, New York, 11385 USA .
This entry so closely coincides with Leon’s and Sophie’s names (even in light of the gross misspelling) and Samuel’s known age at death and where we know the family was living at the time of his death, that this record almost certainly relates to Samuel.
