He <p>immigrated to America in 1912.</p> <p>Notes by grandson Harve Meskin: My grandfather, Shabtai, died when I was 7 or so. He spoke limited</p> <p>english and I really did not know much about him. I was told that he married my grandmother in an</p> <p>arranged marriage and that he came to the US via Galveston; he was a merchant seaman and then a</p> <p>wildcatter. He "lost" [track of?] his family when the village was destroyed in a war (Crimean, WWI?)</p> <p>and spent 7 years trying to find themvia different Jewish agencies. They were finally united in NYC in</p> <p>the early part of the 20's or late teens..."</p>
