1749: December 18: The Last Will and Testament of Samuel Oviatt was dated.

"We John Oviatt, principal and Jacob Baldwin surety, both of Milford, find ourselves to the Administration of Samuel Oviatt late of Milford".

To either of the constables of Milford and also either of the constables of New Milford all within County of New Haven, John Oviatt of said Milford, grandson of Mr. Samuel Oviatt late of said Milford, deceased intending to move to the court of Probate to be held January next in and for the estate of said Samuel Oviatt deceased". "Those are in his majesties name to require you to give notice to Samuel Oviatt, Alexander Oviatt both of Milford, and Giles Oviatt of said New Milford sons to said Samuel Oviatt deceased, they may appear before said court of probate and give reason if any why they should not be granted to the said John Oviatt. Fail not, and make return of this with your doings thereon as the law directs; dated Milford 18th day of December Anno Dom 1749 signed Roger Newton." New Milford, Conn. December ye 26th 1749, "From the above writer notification served upon ye above named Giles Oviatt by reading of same in his hearing in New Milford by me Samuel Bostwick." To the Judge of ye Probate for the District of New Haven,

"Sir, we ye Subscribers Do Depose yet of our cousin; John Oviatt of Milford, grandson to Mr. Samuel Oviatt late of Said Milford dec'd might take administration on ye Estate of our father Samuel Oviatt Dec'd, aforsd, Certified by us, Josiah Smith, John Davis."
