Among the 'Battle Axe' members (Free Love sect) The Reinharts and the Elliotts were mutually supportive. See Joseph Elliot and his wife. It was Joseph who was tried for malicious mischief in 1840 and then young Jesse Elliott came to live with Joseph's widow in 1860. In light of the 'Free Love' sexual association this suggest a confused picture.
