About Samuel Wheelock, Jr.

Per Andrew H. Ward (1847):

Wheelock, Samuel, m. Huldah Rice of Westboro', Feb. 15, 1720, and sup. came here from Marlboro'. She was ad. to this chh. in 1724. He may have been the Samuel, b. in 1696, s. of Deac. Samuel; but as no relationship has been known to be claimed or exist between this family and those of the descendants of Deac. Samuel, he was probably of another family; yet--in absence of other considerations, it might be taken for granted, that he was the s. of Deac. Samuel; and it may have been he, and not Deac. Samuel Wheelock, who d. in 1756; if not, his death is not on record here, nor is that of his wife, Huldah. [Deac. Samuel Wheelock and Lydia Rice confirmed as parents; see notes below] Their chil. as recorded here, were, Nahor, b. Nov. 6, 1721; Timothy, June 24, 1724; Paul, June 26, 1727; Samuel, April 23, 1729, and m. Dorcas Perry of Worcester, in 1754; Persis, Sept. 19, 1732, and sup. m. Ezekiel Newton, in 1755; Huldah, July 20, 1741, and m. Timothy Newton, Feb. 10, 1763.

The question of Samuel's parentage has long since been settled using vital records from Marlborough, and Samuel is now universally recognized as a child of Deac. Samuel Wheelock and Lydia Rice by the authoritative Edmund Rice (1638) Association:

Samuel WHEELOCK (Lydia RICE, Henry, Edmund), born 14 May 1696 at Marlborough, MA (under the name Wheelocke), son of Deacon Samuel WHEELOCK and Lydia RICE.

He married Huldah RICE 15 Feb 1720 at Marlborough, listed as Huldah of Westborough and Samuel Whelock (sic) of Shrewsbury. She was born 5 Dec 1701 at Marlborough (Westborough), MA, daughter of Edmund RICE and Ruth PARKER. Samuel WHEELOCK and Huldah RICE resided about 1721 at Shrewsbury, MA.
