Son of Samuel Wyckoff (Nicholas line) and Gertje Wyckoff (Cornelius line) of Hardy Co W.V. The first Wyckoff (Peter Claesen) came from Holland to New Amsterdam in 1637 and rose to prominence in the Flatlands, or what is now Brooklyn, as not only the Governors overseer, but also as the town magistrate. By the time of the American Revolution the Wyckoff's had been on Long Island for 143 years. Many of the Wyckoff clan, including Samuel and two of his brothers took up the American cause and fought. Samuel who was living in Allegany Co. MD. went to Loudoun Co. Virginia and joined a regiment there. He applied for his Rev. war pension Oct. 29, 1832, going to Eden twp. Licking Co. OH. to claim his bounty lands in the newly created military district. It was granted April 23, 1833. Cert. # 7960 with an annual pension of $33.33 a year. The first payment to include back pay from March 4, 1831 which came to $83.32. One of Samuel's character witnesses on his pension application was William Francis of Licking Co. brother of John Francis and father in law of Jonathan Hall Francis.
