Santiago Gatchalian Tiongson, one of the sons of Tomas Tiongson, a Chinese envoy sent by the empress dowager to study the economic and political conditions of the archipelago; and of Basilia Gatchalian, a woman of noble ancestry. He is among the three children who stayed with their mother in Malolos, Bulacan when their father, four siblings, and other Chinese merchants were deported to China. He acquired vast area of land through the pacto de retroventa. Some of his descendants are members of the Women of Malolos who requested the Governor General a school where they can study Spanish language and other subjects; and the former presidents Corazon Cojuanco and Benigno Aquino III.
