About Sarah Ann (Smith) Johnston - Wilcockson, Free Settler "Lady Nugent" 1838

Sarah Wilcockson / Johnston( nee Smith) was the daughter of Maria Ann Smith ( Granny Smith) apples fame. She first married Henry William Johnston in 1849. Henry died in 1885. She was 61 yrs when she remarried William Wilcockson in 1893. Sarah went to Manly in early 1904 feeling unwell and stayed with her sister Maria and brother in law, James Spurway at LOLOMA at 17 Darley Rd. Sarah died while she was there and was buried at Manly Cemetery. In 1908, her grandson died at 15 yrs from meningitis and he was buried with her in the same plot. Her second husband William, died in Nov 1904 aged 86 in Parramatta. Presumably buried with his first wife Hannah. It is the correct photo for Manly Cemetery Sec S Plot 189. The transcript reads:

Sacred To The Memory Of Our Beloved Son Henry Johnston (Snowy) Died At Manly 22nd Octr. 1908 Aged 15 Years. Loved By All Who Knew Him 'Our Father Who Art In Heaven. Amen'

Also To The Grandmother Of The Above Died 2nd May 1904 Aged 71 Years. Peace Perfect Peace. In Loving Tribute From J.S. & S. Johnston.

Sarah Wilcockson She is buried in the same plot as Henry Johnston( her Grandson). The headstone does not have her name, but indicates that she is Henry's grandmother. That is plot 189 in Sec S. The dates on the headstone match Sarah's. But for some reason, they did not put her name on the headstone. Added by Stombell on Dec 11, 2016 1:48 AM
