About Sarah Bacher
Sarah's obituary in Keneder Adler indicates 7 sons and 4 daughters.
7 children with Noah/Noe [numbered 1-7 below] 6 children with Jonas [numbered 8-13 below]
Sons:
- [2] John Pertez 1898-1950 (Mary Must) died in USA
- [3] Louis 1900-1955 (Bessie Spiegel) buried in Montreal
- [5] Harry 1903-1994 (Victoria Weinstein) buried in Toronto
- [6] Samuel Frank 1905-1074 (Pearl Troster) buried in Toronto
- [10] Michael 1913-1993 (Sylvia Rosen) buried in Montreal?
- [12] Sollie 1916-2002 (Ettie Greenspan) died in USA (born Bernard? also born Sollie)
- [13] Beral 1920-2001 (Rose Kirshenbaum) buried in Toronto (born Bennie?)
Daughters:
- [1] Dinah 1896- (Harry Pickman) died in USA
- [4] Ethel 1901-1992 (Max Leibovitch) buried in Montreal (changed birth years a few times)
- [7] Bessy no records, but there is a Bessie Bagher d. 1906
- [8] Missie 1909-1921 - buried in Montreal
- [9] Esther 1911-1997 (Irving Bellman) buried in Montreal
- [11] Gertie 1915-2005 (Ferri/Wolf) died in USA
So, there are two extra girls. Missie died in 1921 at around 12 years of age. Without records for Bessy, if we assume that Bessie Bagher d. 1906, buried in Back River in the same section as Noah/Noe, that accounts for the other extra daughter. Bessie Berger's gravestone is badly worn and partly covered.
John Bacher's obituary names "6 brothers, Louis and Michael of Montreal, and Harry, Samuel, Saul and Bernard of Toronto; 4 sisters, Mrs Harry Pickman, Mrs Esther Lebowitz, Mrs Gertrude Wolf and Mrs Esther Belman." Bernard is probably Sollie.

1931 Registration of Bacher Births
Ethel Bacher
Noe Bacher, first husband of Sarah Sabbath, died in 1907, so Ethel is more likely to be his daughter. Other records suggest Ethel was born in 1901. In the 1911 census, Hitta, 10, is born Dec 1901., and her brother Harry is listed as born May 1903. Her 1922 marriage record lists her as 21 years old [1901 birth] and a native of Austria. In 1940,(Sept. 10 27860-E) Max Leibovitch obtained an Imperial Certificate of Naturalization with his wife Ethel Bacher, so Ethel was certainly not born in Canada. Max Leibovitch signed Bennie Bacher's birth record, but not his wife's. |
