Joseph Kimball was born on January 24, 1674/75 in Ipswich, Esses County, Massachusetts. He was the son of John and Mary Kimball. Reseachers differ on whether it was Mary Bradstreet or Mary Jordan.

He married Sarah Warner on April 29, 1696 in Ipswich. Sarah was born on October 22, 1673 in Ipswich. Her parents were Daniel Warner and Sarah Dane. The same day his father gave him the southern end of his farm on the commons in Ipswich as a wedding gift.

The Essex County Court at Newberry records for September 26, 1699 cite

   Joseph Kimball, with Sarah Warner, whom he carried to Salem with the child within 24 hours after birth, which child died an hour and half after arrival in Salem.

   Bond of 50 pounds,

   sureties, Richard Kimball and [her brother] Philemon Warner.

Joseph and Sarah's children included: Sarah Kimball ( July 19, 1700, died at 4 months), Joseph Kimball (April 12, 1702, married Mary Graves), Philemon Kimball (1704), Eunice Kimball Skillon (1706, married John Skillon), Mercy Kimball Skillon (1708, married Nathaniel Skillon), Daniel Kimball ( November 11, 1710), Stephen Kimball (December 27, 1713, married Lucy Colburn), Joshua Kimball (December 18, 1715, married Deborah Andrews), and Dean Kimball (September, 1717 to 1771).

Sarah died February 28, 1754 and Joseph died on November 4, 1761 when he was 86 years old.

   Joseph [Kimball], son of John Kimball, was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, January 24, 1675, died in 1761. He received from his father by deed, April 19, 1696, the sourthern end of his farm, bound on the common in Ipswich where he lived. His will was proved December 14, 1761, and his son Daniel was executor; he mentioned his granddaughter, Mary, daughter of Stephen Kimball, late of Dracut, deceased, and also his daughters Mery and Eunice Skillon.
