Sarah Owen Burleson learned to run their plantation by herself as her husband, General Edward Burleson was often gone. One time she asked her husband to make certain there was enough firewood before he left. When he failed to do so she had her servants take the shingles from the roof of the house. When General Burleson arrived home he not only had to chop the needed firewood he had to replace the missing shingles as well.
