About Sarah Coombs
Sarah Lee is the daughter of Joseph Lee and Abigail Price and the granddaughter of William Lee who came to NY. in 1675. Her husband was Solomon Coombs who died before Oct. 31, 1750.
In recent internet genealogies it has been claimed that Sarah later married Benjamin Maple Jr of Middlesex County, New Jersey. Not only is there NO EVIDENCE for this, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE -- Benjamin Maple should not be connected to Sarah (Lee) Coombs.
It has been claimed that Sarah was a Sarah Maple who was listed as a founding member of a church in Decatur, New York around the beginning of the 19th century ("History of Otsego County, New York", 1878). There is no reason to believe that this Sarah was the widow of Benjamin Maple Jr or the widow of Solomon Coombs. In fact, her name in the church record was probably transcribed incorrectly. She was probably a Sarah KAPLE who was known to have lived among other members of the church.
