About Sarah (Edge) Cox, Free Settler "Mary Ann" 1791

Name: Cox, Francis Record Type: Marriages Gender: Male Spouse: Eddge, Sarah Gender: Female Date of marriage: 24 Jul 1809 Registered: Hobart Registration year: 1809 Record ID: NAME_INDEXES:816107 Resource: RGD36/1/1 no 37 At the time of their marriage both Sarah and Francis were unable to sign their names

As both Fane/Phaon Edge Sr and his wife Sarah (Rushton) both died on Norfolk Island by 1803, prior to any muster that recorded arrival vessel, the only hope of determining the vessel lies with the children. There is a possibility that at least one of them was born in England, and may have had an arrival vessel recorded in a later muster. Interesting to see that one online source has the daughter Sarah Cox who was supposedly born in 1788, referred to as arriving free per Mary Ann 1791. I've not seen how they determined this ship but it's a reasonable possibility. Sarah Cox does appear in both the 1818 and 1819 population musters of Hobart Town but unfortunately women did not have their arrival vessel noted. See person# 288 in the attached section of the muster. There's also a Fane Edge Jr baptised 20 Feb 1791 in Hampshire immediately after Fane and Sarah came off the list posted above, which indicates at least one child accompanied them to NSW. The return of the vessel carrying a Provost Marshall and wife to Norfolk Island in Mar 1792 notes they had 2 children accompanying them Sarah and Francis Cox had two children Baptised on the 23rd Dec 1811 Rebecca and Philip were baptised by the Rev Knopwood Hobart town
