About Sarah Eisenstein
Sara, his daughter, was born in a shtettle called "Racaciuni" about 20 miles west of Bacau Romania. [NB: Coordinates of Racaciuni place it about 15 miles south of Bacau, and slightly to the west of a town that today is called Racaciuni - which may be the former site of the shtettle, or it may have been among the small villages in the mountainous plateaus to the west of the current town. Sarah came to live in Los Angeles in about 1900 because some of her children were already here and also fear of the Romanian army. Perry went to Canada first, then to San Francisco, and then to Los Angeles in 1904. His brother Jack worked in a grocery business in Torrance. Perry was in the clothing business. Perry bought his business from his nephew, Harry Greenberg at First and Main.
Sarah lived first on Turner Street, where Harry Greenberg first lived. Sarah then lived with her sister Gitel (Gertrude) on 798 East 18th Street, where there were two houses on the lot. Sarah's husband lived and died in Los Angeles. Sarah was born in a village called Racaciuni, Rumania, which was a stetl (small village) 20 miles west of Bacau, Rumania. Her maiden name was Hazu.
Joe Wolf said that the family came to Rumania originally from Austria in the early to mid 1850's.
Charles decendents, the Prevers, have a geneology book going back several generations to the early 1800's. Legend has it that a relative was asked by Emeror Franz Joseph of Austria to take over the running of the Austria-Hungarian empire while he was out of the country.
