About Sarah Hawley
concerns
Do not confuse this Sarah with her same-named younger sister Abigail Wheeler.
notes
From an unidentified source: "<This Sarah> Was g. g. grandaughter of Lieutenant Francis Nicholls of the Horse Guards (Colonial War Ancestor) of London, whose borther was Governor Richard Nichols of New York. Their mother Maragret Bruce was descended from the great Robert Bruce, and also from the Stewarts, Lornes, and many other famous Scottish families. Her other g. g. grandfather was Andrew Ward, who was Magistrate and who married a sister to Roger Sherman, the Signer, (among their descendants were Aaron Burr, and Henry Ward Beecher). Andrew Ward was a son of Richard Ward and Ana Grenville and descended from the Arundels, Ftz-Paynes, Gapels and other noted families. Both the above were Colonial Dame Ancestors." <NOTA BENE: The preceding source excerpt makes three apparent errors: [1] it confuses Sgt. Francis Nichols with Francis Nichols of the Middle Temple (whose wife was Margaret Bruce); [2] it identifies Hester "Esther" Ward (the wife of Andrew Ward of Fairfield) as a sister of Roger Sherman; [3] it identifies Andrew Ward's parents, whom are actually unknown.>
