About Sarah Kingham (Ward)
Married in Coventry on 24th June 1922.
Death registered in Q1 1975 in Coventry.
Ernest, her father, had held a professional post in metallurgy in the city. Her parents would remain estranged for the remainder of their lives.
Sarah was known colloquially as 'Sally' Kingham. She spent most of the war years working in domestic service to the family of Captain G W Breitmeyer at their wartime home in Radway, Warwickshire. This seems to have been a separate property to the Breitmeyer's Avon Dassett home. The Captain was the son of diamond mining magnate Ludwig Breitmeyer, former director of De Beers*. The property was a large private house at the foot of Edge Hill. Sally lived in a small bungalow situated on the grounds. Her children were in separate lodgings at the top of the hill [in Ratley].
Sally is fondly remembered as the great matriarch of the Kingham family.
