About Sarah Ann Marshall
Sara Ann lived in St Louis until she was around 13; her father was a LDS early founder and had 6 wives. Various accounts suggest he may have married her posthumously - sara ann came to SLC around 13 yoa, married GW Marshall, a stage coach driver around 15-16 yoa. she was not an LDS and moved with GW to Nevada where Belle was born. After that they set up camp in Yellowstone on the Firehole river. Eventually the family moved into Montana.
Daughter of George Romrell & Mary Ann Porter.
George stayed in St. Louis for ten years working at the ship carpenters and became quite efficient. While there he married Mary Ann Porter and two little girls were born to them. One lived only a short time. The wife did not belong to the church and refused to join.
In 1861 George made preparations to go to Zion. He put his supplies in a hand cart drawn by two oxen and joined the George Harper Company which was coming to Utah. His wife and child remained in St. Louis refusing to come with him. Sarah's father George remarried. Several years later he sent for Sarah Romrell. She lived with them in Ogden until she met GW Marshall and was married on 25 Aug 1874 in Ogden Utah.
NOTE: Lee Romrell's undated “The Descendants of Mary Ann Porter and George Romrell,” gives her date of birth as July 1, 1859. The Marshall family Bible has it as June 7, 1860, one obituary shows June 17, 1854, two other obituaries give June 7, 1857, her death certificate has her date of birth as Jan. 2, 1857 and various census records show June1855-1859.
