Sarah Estella Mortensen

The above photo is from Ancestry.com and depicts Hans Jorgen Pederson Mortensen, his 4th wife, Virginia Lovina Newman Dame Mortensen (with whom he had no children), and 4 children from other wives of Hans. The small son next to Hans with his hand on his father's leg is Hans Jorgen Mortensen, born in 1881, the son of Hans and his 3rd wife, Jane Elizabeth Holyoak, with whom he had 3 children. Jane died a few months after the birth of their 3rd child, Sarah, who was born in 1885. Sarah is the little girl in the center of the photo, between Hans and Virginia. The two older boys standing behind Hans and Virginia are Jesse Leonidas Mortensen, born in 1873 and William Wallace Mortensen, born in 1875, children of Hans and his first wife, Dionetia Emily Alexander Mortensen. This photo was probably taken in about 1890, since another daughter of Hans and Jane, Edith Lenora Mortensen, had passed away in 1889, and was not shown in this photo. Edith was born in 1883 and died at the age of 6 years old. Sadly, six of Hans 11 children with his first wife, Dionetia Emily Alexander Mortensen, also died young.
