  • MATTHEW WHIPPLE, born died Sept. 28, 1647. Received a grant of land in Ipswich Hamlet in 1638, where re resided. He held the chief offices in town, and was on some of its most important committees. He had a brother John who settled in Ipswich, and perhaps a brother David who settle in Rhode Island, on a place called Study Hill, (Cumberland?) Matthew had two wives, 1st. by whom he had his children. 2d. Rose (Chute?) m'd Nov. 13, 1646, who outlived him.
