In 1762 Nathaniel Lewis served in the French and Indian War under Captain Archibald McNeil

In the first year of the Revolutionary War, Nathaniel Lewis served as sergeant, in a Litchfield Company under Capt. David Welch.

Their oldest daughter, Elizabeth married in 1790 to Isaac Hale, afterwards removing from Wells, Rutland County, VT, to Willingborough, Luzerne County, PA.

Isaac Hale and Nathaniel Lewis lived near each other, on the north side of the river, as early as 1791. Afterwards, Nathaniel bought a place on the south side, and resided there for many years. Shortly after 1810 the boundaries of Willingborough was remapped. The region where Isaac and Nathaniel's families had settled became known as Harmony of Susquehanna County, PA.

Nathaniel Lewis born 1740 in Litchfield, Conn. Married Esther Tuttle 1767. Moved to Wells and Rutland, Vermont and later to Harmony in Chautauqua Co. New York. In 1762 Nathaniel Lewis served in the French and Indian War under Captain Archibald McNeil. He was Sargent, 4th Company, 1st Connecticut Regiment under Capt. David Welch of the Litchfield Company in the Northern Department, Nov. 10, 1775. (Welch's home is on the Nat'l Historic Register in Litchfield.) In 1781 he is shown as serving in Capt. Abel Merriman's Company of Col. Thomas Lee's Regiment of Vermont Militia. (Col. Lee shows up in Vermont court records as a leader of the Vermont Regulators who in 1786 led a mob of one hundred Vermont men and interrupted a court proceeding.)
