About Selma Sue Geiger
GEIGER Selma Sue Chapman Geiger was born in Shreveport, LA on January 5, 1934. She grew up in New Orleans, LA and moved to Houma, LA in 1955 where she has resided since. She died in Houma on Thursday, October 9, 2008.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Emanuel B. Geiger; two sons, Harold S. Geiger of St. Louis and Michael B. Geiger and wife, Deborah, of Rockville, Md.; one daughter, Melanie G. Pollack and husband, Dale, of Houston; two grandchildren, Sonya Rachel Geiger and Heather Johanna Geiger of Rockville, Md.; one brother, Jerome I. Chapman and wife, Bunny, of Alexandria, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Isaac Chapman.
She worked for more than 40 years alongside her husband in their business, Universal Men's Wear in downtown Houma. After retirement in 1994 she became active in the Shady Oaks (later Shady Acres) Senior Citizens Center and was a member of their action committee.
She was a four time Past Matron of A.W. Connely No. 117, Order of Eastern Star, Past Mother Adviser of Houma Assembly No. 57, Order of Rainbow for Girls, a past chapter mom for Aubin Buquet Chapter of Demolay. She was a charter member and past president of the Houma Terrebonne Jaycee Jaynes, a member of Friends of the Library and past president of Houma Clownettes. She was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue in Metairie and Congregation Beth-El of Houma. She loved to read, play poker, keno and go to the casinos.
