About Sergeant William Ticknor, I
•That same time John Stockbridge removed to Boston and William and Hannah succeeded him in the mansion house by the harbor, his farm was three fourths of a mile south west of the harbor
•Held rank of Sergeant and served in King Philips War in general Cudworth’s guard in 1676
•He was a member of the 2nd Church of Scituate, the church in which all of his children were baptized in, this was a church of the moderate party of Puritans
•He was engaged in agriculture, navigation and mercantile pursuits, and engaged in municipal affairs as selectman, assessor, surveyor, etc.
•A “warehouse” of his shows up in the Scituate records in 1660
•He had two sons John who was baptized in May 15, 1659 and William who was born June 26, 1664. John and Hannah both died in an accident on July 5, 1665.
•He married Deborah Hyland in 1666, but they had no children together
•Deborah died in 1693 and three years later in July, 1696 William died.
Notes Notes for William Sr. TICKNOR
William came from England to Scituate Mass in 1656. Possibly 1646 or earlier according to Savage. The exact location of his house in unknown, but a section of Scituate is known as Ticknor Hill.
He was a sgt in Cuthworth's guard, St Philips war. [Virkus 1:85 and NEHGR 103:241]
A Martin Tichenor took oath of allegiance at New Haven Conn, 1644 [Savage]. Whether they were related is not certain. Martin founded the New Jersey lineage to which belonged the statesman, Isaac Tichenor. [Teachnor, Richard 1918]
