He was a 2nd Sergeant i the Comfederacy, enlisting June 15, 1861. Discharged, disability at Camp Alleghany, VA Aug 3, 1861. Applied for pension in Taylor County in Feb 1898. He was granted the pension and re-applied in 1899 and 1900. He had to apply for his pension each year. He was 85 when he first applied. Bailey was a farmer.
In the 1840 census, Bailey and Francis were in Marion County, GA. with two sons under the age of 5. In the 1850 census they were in Muscogee Co. where Bailey was farming and they had five children in the home. Thomas, Andrew, Mary, Martha, and James. Sara, born in 1843 was not listed. Perhaps she died in childbirth. In 1860 they were back in Marion County, where Bailey was farming. There were 5 children in the home. Mary, James, Richard, Zacharias and George. Thomas and Andrew were old enough to be out of the home.
In 1870 census, Bailey and Francis were in Marion County. Bailey was working on a farm. Children at home were James, Richard, Zacharias, and George. In the 1900 census Bailey was living with his son, Zacharias Davis Gill in Taylor County. Information given by Bailey and Frances' grandson, Walter D Gill, in 1927, indicates that Bailey was called Rhodes and Francis was called Frankie. He also said that Frances' name was Francis Etheridge, which explains the E. in Francis E. Davis.
Buried in the Pearson/Tullis Cemetary in Marion County Georgia.
