Nathan Bryant Mincy is the son of Bryant Mincey (Minshew) and Martha Creola Norton Mincey. Around the time of the Civil War, N. B. changed the spelling of his name to Mincy dropping the e. Most of his descendants followed suit.

MINCY, N. B. - Sergeant - Mincy, born in Horry District, enlisted at Blanton's Crossroads, Horry District, on 1 January 1862. He mustered in as a Private, and was discharged on 3 January 1863 for being over 40 years old. He reenlisted in this company on 18 March 1864 and was present or accounted for until noted in Petersburg, Virginia, hospital on 17 August 1864. Death claim made on 14 December 1864, by his widow, Sarah Mincy. See Family No. 467 in 1860 U. S. Census of Horry District, S. C. Last records show him as Sergeant.
