About Sheldon Lounsbury
On 10 Oct 1861, Sheldon Lounsbury enlisted in Company H 64th New York Volunteers and served in the Civil War until 4 Nov 1864. He participated in the battles at Fair Oaks, June 1, 1862, and of Antietam, September 17, 1862. Here he was wounded by a bullet and taken to the U.S. general hospital near Frederick City, Maryland, where he remained from October until the fourth of the next March, when he was transferred to the Jarvis hospital at Baltimore. From there he was sent to the convalescent hospital at Patterson Park, with the intention of joining his regiment, but this he was not permitted to do. He was then transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps."
