About Sidney Rigdon Carter

Sidney Rigdon Carter married two women on the same day, 6 March 1857. They were sisters named Leah Lucinda Ross, and Margaret Ann Ross. When Sidney asked their father, Thomas Ross, if he could marry Leah, Mr Ross said, "I have an older daughter that needs to be married." Sidney said, in descriptive language, "If I have to marry the whole family to get the one I want, I'll do it." and so he did.

Four men became fast friends from this time forward. They were, Sidney Rigdon Carter, William (Bill) Cummings, James Andrew Ross, and Joseph Faulkner Parker. Parker and Carter married girls of the Thomas and Rachel Smith Ross family. Parker married Mary Elizabeth Ross, and Carter married Margaret Ann and Leah Lucinda Ross.

This information was obtained from a paper entitled "Carter History," written by Betty Carter. She states the story was taken from the book "Birth of Kanosh," written by Leavitt Christensen.
