About Silas Powers
Silas Powers came to Bethel, Maine circa 1783. He was still there for the 1800 Census.
This information comes from the formal pedigree by his direct descendant and Librarian of Congress, Hazel Bartlett (1884-1987) and her brother Professor Harley Harris Bartlett from their work with professional genealogists on the formal written pedigree of their father, Jonathan Hodgkin Bartlett. Hazel and Harley entered 29 Sept. 1762 as the birthdate of Silas Powers. Silas was married in Bethel, Maine and most likely he died there as well. Silas Powers married Submit Bartlett in Bethel, September 12. 1790. Through their daughter Lois Powers and granddaughter Julia Hodgkin, eventually the line of Submit Bartlett came back again to the Ebenezer Bartlett line when Julia Hodgkin married Artemas Powers Bartlett. See Artemas P. Bartlett pedigree scanned into record for Artemas.
Silas lost his father, Gideon Powers who was killed in the American Revolutionary War in 1789.
