About Simon Bolivar Coate, Sr
In 1863, during the Civil War, Simon was abducted in Prosperity, SC (Newberry County) and never seen again. The abduction took place in the presence of Simon's wife Sarah "Sallie" Nichols and their children including Mary Ella Coate who was 3 years old at the time.
Simon is memorialized in St. Luke's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Prosperity, Newberry County, SC ("Resting Place Known But To God"). His wife, Sally Nichols, is buried there.
