Biographical Summary by Darryl Lundy's Peerage

Sir Alexander Stewart, of Garlies (b. circa 1507, d. January 1580/81) was the son of Sir Alexander Stewart, Garlies and Dalswinton and Elizabeth Kennedy.

He married, secondly, Margaret Dunbar, daughter of Sir Patrick Dunbar of Clugston.1 He married, thirdly, Katherine Stewart, daughter of Walter Stewart of Barclye. He married, firstly, Katherine Crichton, daughter of Sir James Crichton of Cranstounriddel, circa 1521.

He fought in the Battle of Solway Moss in November 1542, where he was captured by the English. In 1543 he was released in exchange for his son as hostage.
