...Andrew Ramsay was the third son of the Reverend Andrew Ramsay (d.1659), Minister of the Old Kirk, Edinburgh, and from 1620 - 1626 Professor of Divinity and Rector at Edinburgh University, a younger son of David Ramsay, 1534 - 1625, and Katherine Carnegie; and a great-grandson of William Ramsay of Balmain, 1510 - 1569. Sir Andrew's mother was Mary, daughter of Alexander Frazer, Laird of Dores."

Haddington, a. and h. ap. of Sir Andrew Ramsay, of Abbotshall, sometime (1654-57 and 1662-73) Lord Provost of Edinburgh, and (1671-73) a Lord of Session under the style of lord Abbotshall, by Janet Craw, his wife, was bap. 24 Dec. 1648, at the Grey Friars church, Edinburgh ; was M.P. [S.] for North Berwick, 1669-74, and was cr. a Baronet [S.], 23 June 1669, with rem. to heirs male of the body. He suc. his father (who d. aged 69), 17 Jan. 1688. He m. Anne, da. of Hugh (Montgomerie), Earl of Eglintoun [S.], by his 2d wife, Mary, da. of John (Leslie), Earl of Rothes [S.].
